This year, I’m more excited than ever to decorate for the holidays, for two reasons. First, we’re in the new-to-us house – our 1929 home – and I can’t wait to deck the halls and celebrate our first holidays here.
But, second, I think decorating for the holidays is like any kind of home decorating: you have to find your own style. I’ve decorated our home differently every year. Last year, I used more teal and metallics in our holiday decor. Before that, I went for a more colorful style.
Kmart and Sears conducted a survey recently and found that 41% of Americans define their holiday decorating design style as “classic”; 37% said their style was “colorful”; and 12% said “vintage.”
This year, I’m decorating our home more in my personal style: rustic and vintage. I’m using a lot of red and neutrals.
What’s your holiday decorating style? Kmart and Sears want to know! They are on a mission to find out how people from all over decorate for the holidays.

To deck my halls, Sears provided me with a $100 gift card. Want to see what I found at Sears and Kmart?
(Well, the boys are sharing a tree because they wanted the same decorations on their trees!)
My daughter’s tree, of course, is covered in green ornaments (green is her signature color!).
The tree came with the burlap skirt (I added the ribbons) and the green Sandra by Sandra Lee ornaments came in both matte and shiny finish.
My tree suits me to a T.
A chalkboard-like ornament and lots of tools – these are a few of my favorite things!
I couldn’t resist the tool box ornament!
Perfect for a DIYer!
The boys wanted a football theme for their tree:
Three Kurt Adler 24 in. Jefferson Tabletop Trees: $74.97
Craftsman Wrench Ornament $6.99
Craftsman Hammer Ornament $6.99
Craftsman Group of Wrenches Ornament $6.99
Sandra by Sandra Lee 27 Mini Glass Ball Ornaments $1.99
Alabama Spinner Ornament $8.99
Alabama Chalkboard Ornament $9.99
Total, plus tax and shipping, minus sale discounts: $107.39
For all of that! I couldn’t believe it. I loved the ornaments so much, I went back and bought more, including the tool box ornament above and these adorable stockings:
It’s like someone made them just for me!
