Thirty Days of Gratitude, Day 19: The Family Room

November 19, 2014 By Karen Cooper 1 Comment

On Day 19 of Thirty Days of Gratitude, I am grateful for our family room.

You may remember this picture from this post, about how I framed the plans for this house.

This is the room where we watch TV, play games, and hang out together (hence the name, I suppose). The fireplace provides warmth on chilly nights, and I keep a store of quilts and blankets on the old ladder there and in a basket by the TV stand on the other side of the room.

And the clock! I love that clock above the fireplace. It’s wood with metal and wood numbers. I actually didn’t buy the clock the first time I saw it at the store, thought about it overnight, and, then, the next day, immediately went back and bought it. I’m so glad I did (and that it was still there!)!

That bench, which is now used as a coffee table, was in the entry hall in our old house. It was the perfect scale for a coffee table/ottoman in our new family room, and doubles as extra seating.

The sectional and pillows are the same as we had in the old house. That floral pillow is the inspiration for the colors in this room.

The brown leather chair across from the sectional is new, because we used the chairs from the living room in our old house in the formal living room in the 1929 House.

My red principal’s bench makes the perfect shelf for games and books.

With all the cold weather we’ve been having, plus lots of college football and now basketball to watch, we’ve been cuddled up in here most evenings, and it makes me feel warm and happy.

What are you grateful for today?
