Yesterday, I posted the big reveal of our new and improved, brighter dining room.
Today, I want to let you know the breakdown of what this major improvement cost.
First, I removed the chair rail – this was free. I did it all myself. I had to buy two containers of spackle, which cost $7.50/each. I have most of one of those containers left to use for other spackling fun.
The paint – Benjamin Moore “Moonshine” in its Natura line, cost $54.99/gallon = $109.98.
Slipcovers for the chairs: $127.96 less 15% with coupon, from Overstock.com. Total = $115.16.
Dining room table: we had in our kitchen. Moved my old breakfast room table (which was being used as a desk/place to pile up junk) into the kitchen to replace it.
Buffet, glass and metal table, window, art – we already had this.
We have not gotten a rug or curtains yet. Clearly, the rug especially will add some cost here. I’m planning on buying fabric for the curtains and making them (gulp!).
So, the tally so far is $240.14!
The moral of this story is:
(a) You can dramatically improve the look of a room on a budget, with relatively little expense; and
(b) First, shop at home! I was shocked at how many things in my home I could reuse in this room and they look better in here.
I’m planning on going rug shopping this week, so I’ll let you know what I find.
Thanks for stopping by,
